Boat Immortal IM1000D Gaming Headset Review In 2022

The BoAt Immortal IM1000D is a dual-channel gaming headphone that features 7.1 channel surround sound and Dolby Atmos audio support. Does the specification, however, justify the 2299 INR price tag? Is it the best gaming headphone under 3000?

BoAt, the Indian audio brand best known for its low-cost headphones, has expanded into a new market. The company introduced first ever gaming headphone for the Indian market, which, like the majority of the company’s products, is priced reasonably. Let’s see if we can identify all of the answers in this article.

Design

The IM1000D is built with surprisingly good taste; it replicates several other gaming headphones, but it still usually looks great, especially in this white colour, and I’m delighted they selected grey earpads and a grey headband instead of white. It has a good build quality, and despite its low weight, it seems solid. The white version’s red braided cable is also attractive and durable. It has excellent tilting earcups, and even though there is no swivel adjustment, the earcups still adjust to your head perfectly.

The earpads have a cheap feel to them, but they’re still plush and provide plenty of space for your ears. They don’t appear to be detachable, but that’s true of many other headsets in this category. The headset contains two microphones: a removable boom microphone that can be adjusted and an in-built mic that operates when the boom mic is removed, which is a sensible addition. With this, you receive a small control box with five buttons that you can use to adjust volume, mute the headset, mute the mic, or turn on or off the RGB LED.

Boat took the term “RGB LEDs” to its logical conclusion, and the headset includes Red, Green, and Blue colour LEDs that continuously change without transition, and you can only switch them on or off; you can’t alter their brightness or make them stay at these colours. I think having just one colour on this would’ve been much better, because it makes the headset feel cheap in one section, and it doesn’t match the quality of the rest of it.

Sound Quality

Before we discuss the audio quality of this product, you should be advised that you will need to install two software packages on your PC: boAt Plugin Labz and Dolby Access. The BoAt official website has a link to download boAt Plugin Labz. You may control the volume, change the sampling rate, interact with the equaliser, and, most significantly, enable or disable 7.1 surround sound using this software. Because the BoAt Immortal 1000D supports Dolby Atmos, you must download Dolby Access software from the Microsoft Store. Please note that in order to use Dolby Atmos, you must first delete the boAt Plugin Labz programme.

One thing I’d want to point out is that if you’re more into games like PUBG PC and CS: GO, a Dolby Atmos-supporting headset will be useless. However, while streaming videos or playing Dolby-supporting games, you may notice some improvement.

Finally, when it comes to overall sound quality, I tested the headset with games like PUBG PC, Valorant, COD, and CS: GO, and I was pleasantly surprised by the surround sound quality it provides. You won’t have any trouble determining the direction of your opponent’s footsteps, as well as their location and movement. This headphone’s high output is due to the 50mm driver. The sound notes, on the other hand, are unbalanced. Because the high notes are so high, you won’t find these headphones very comfy in terms of sound quality. The sound quality of the original and the sound quality received through headphones will differ slightly.

The 7.1 surround sound isn’t that impressive either. Yes, there will be a difference when compared to conventional headphones, but as I previously stated, headphones must have a great overall tuning. The issue isn’t limited to this headphone; most 7.1 headphones in the affordable market don’t deliver real 7.1 surround sound.

Mic Quality

When it comes to good gaming headphones, we all know how important a microphone is. When you consider the budget, the microphone quality of this headphone is quite good. Despite the lack of a pop-off filter at the front, this headphone detects very little background noise, which is a positive feature. And, in my opinion, this function will come in handy when it comes to heavy gaming.

Connectivity

The Boat IM1000D is unique in that it only has USB connectivity. Boat claims that this is because these are made exclusively for PC gaming, but every other gaming headphone I’ve tested with USB connectivity also includes a 3.5mm jack because the drivers are already installed, so there’s no reason not to. This means that even if your phone has a headphone jack, you will need to use a USB adaptor to use them.

Pros

  • Good Sound Quality
  • Dual boom mic
  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable
  • Value for money

Cons

  • No 3.5mm audio jack connector

Conclusion

When it comes to providing superior headphones at a low cost, BoAt is the undisputed leader. However, as I indicated in this post, there is lots of opportunity for development with the BoAt Immortal 1000D. If you’re only interested in these headphones due to the 7.1 surround sound or Dolby support, I recommend skipping them and instead going for one of the many other options available. When watching movies or listening to music, there is no noticeable difference in sound quality. I’m going to describe it as an average gaming headset after testing all of its functions.

If you compare these headphones to other options in this price range in terms of design, comfort, build, and sound quality, you’ll come to the same conclusion, namely that you should avoid the BoAt Immortal 1000D at all costs. So, there you have it: my in-depth review of the BoAt Immortal 1000D. I would suggest increasing your budget by 1000 rupees and purchasing a JBL Quantum 100, Boat Immortal IM-200, or Boat Immortal IM-700.
